NYC Charter Revision Proposals on the Ballot in November
There’s a lot packed in here.
It’s important to know that the words used such as “Fast Track,” “Expedited,” are adjectives used by the authors. Please read the information carefully on your ballots!!
Here are the proposals:
Olympic Sports Complex Amendment: Would allow new Nordic Ski and biathlon trails in he Adirondack forest preserve while adding 2,500 new acres to the forest preserve.
Fast Track Affordable Housing: Would create two new processes to fast-track certain affordable housing projects and some affordable units (via housing lottery). Allowing some projects to bypass the City Council review, giving final decisions to the City Planning Commission of the Board of Standard and Appeals.
Expedited Land Use Review Procedure (ELURP): Would create an expedited review process (ELURP), bypassing the Council for projects and giving final say to the City Planning Commission.
Create a different housing appeals board: Would replace the mayor’s veto power and also replaces the Council’s ability to overturn that veto with a three-member appeals board (mayor, borough president, Council speaker) to review Council rejections and/or modifications of a variety of housing projects and rezonings of whole neighborhoods.
Create a digital city map to modernize city operations
Even-year Elections: Move city elections to presidential years. (pending State approval).
West Side Democrats Stand with Tish James
“Christine Annechino, President, West Side Democrats
“Attorney General Letitia James has stood on the front lines defending democracy, justice, and the rights of every New Yorker. Now, as she faces a politically motivated attack from Trump’s DOJ, we must stand on the front lines for her. The Democratic Attorneys General Association’s Legal Defense Fund ensures that leaders like Tish — and all 23 Democratic Attorneys General — can continue fighting for our values without fear or compromise. Let’s show her the strength of the West Side and have her back.”
